This extract is taken from a book Brian is currently reading. It resonates with him so he wanted to share it.
One of the greatest gifts we can give is our undivided attention.
There are a billion distractions in the world, especially nowadays. One of the best ways to say “I love you” is to offer our energy, time and dedicated attention.
Turning the TV off. Putting down the video game controller. Closing the laptop. And, for the love of all things holy, putting down the cell phone.
Taking a moment to simply acknowledge and show interest in someone’s presence speaks volumes.
Whether it’s 5 mins or 100 mins: our time, energy and attention are all precious gifts that convey the unspoken message, “You matter”.
Most dogs spend the majority of their days waiting for their humans to get home from work. Hours upon hours. No interaction, no stimulation and rarely are they drained of their energy prior to this long day of waiting. When their humans do return home, they’re usually so tapped and drained from the day that “dealing with the dog” becomes yet another thing to do and take care of and creates more stress and anxiety instead of peace and joy.
Our undivided attention is needed and always appreciated, regardless of species. Gift it. Everything else can wait.
